Overview

RockStart ("the extension") is a new tab page for Chrome, Brave, Edge and Firefox, published by Pearkoder (pearkoder.com). This policy explains what information is involved when you use it.

Summary

- We collect nothing. RockStart has no accounts, no analytics, no ads, no tracking and no servers of ours. Pearkoder never receives anything you do in it.

- Everything the extension shows or saves stays in your browser.

- Other companies only come into it if you choose a feature that needs them. Those cases are listed below.

What the extension reads, and why

RockStart asks your browser for these permissions. Each one is used on your device only.

- Bookmarks: to show your bookmark folders in the sidebar. When you reorder, add, edit, move, rename or delete something there, the extension makes that change in your browser's bookmarks. Your bookmarks are never copied anywhere else.

- Tabs: to read the address, title and "playing sound" state of your open tabs, so it can show which links are open, list your open tabs, and jump to one. This is kept in memory only. It is never stored and never sent anywhere.

- Favicons (Chrome, Brave, Edge): to show site icons from your browser's own icon cache. Firefox has no such permission; there the extension remembers the icon of each site you have had open and shows that, on this device.

- Search: to pass what you type in the search box to your browser's default search engine, exactly as if you had typed it in the address bar. Your search engine's own privacy policy applies to that search.

- Storage: to save your pinned sites, to-do tasks and appearance settings.

What is saved, and where

- Pins, to-do tasks and appearance settings are saved in your browser's extension storage. If you are signed in to your browser and sync is on, your browser (for example Google or Brave) syncs them between your devices under its own privacy policy. We cannot see them. If sync is off, they stay on this device.

- A wallpaper you upload is saved on this device only. It is never synced and never uploaded.

- Small preferences (which folders are open, which bookmark list is showing, whether the sidebar is hidden, and the last background picture's address and credit) are saved on this device.

Removing the extension deletes what it saved on the device. Synced data can be removed through your browser's sync settings.

Optional: background pictures

By default there is no background picture and RockStart makes no network requests of its own.

If you choose a picture source in the Appearance panel, your browser (not Pearkoder) asks that service for a picture. The service sees your IP address and ordinary request details, like any website you visit, and its own privacy policy applies. We receive nothing.

- Bing daily: Microsoft (bing.com)

- Wikimedia: the Wikimedia Foundation (wikipedia.org, commons.wikimedia.org)

- Photos: Lorem Picsum (picsum.photos), which serves photos from Unsplash contributors

- Art: The Metropolitan Museum of Art open access collection (metmuseum.org)

- Link: the website of the image address you type in

Choosing None or Upload makes no such requests.

Children

RockStart is a general-purpose browser tool and is not directed at children. Because we collect no information, we do not collect information from children either.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new date.
